West Nurseries Limited, of Low Fulney, Spalding is a family run business, with Stuart West as Managing Director. Closely involved is Stuart's son Rod, who now takes on responsibility for much of the day-to-day management. Stuart's wife, Ann, is also a vital part of the team.

 

Established 26 years ago, the business was involved in lettuce and celery production for the first eleven years. In 1990, Stuart made the break from salads, and started growing a few column stocks as a trial. In 1999, Stuart was the winner of the Hortex Flower Grower of the Year award.

The business now produces over a million stems of stocks, in addition to lisianthus, asters and chrysanthemums. Approximately 85% of production is sold through local packers to the multiple sector.

Stuart and Rod have plans to extend the glasshouse area which is currently 16722 sq m. Outdoor flowers are grown on 2.5ha of land adjacent to the glass.

West Nurseries Ltd was one of the first few local grower businesses to achieve accreditation to EUREPGAP.
